Central Illinois Adams Sanctuary Meetup

A sunny spring day to go walking through the woods, morning birdwatching, and lunch afterwards.

Join myself and like-minded people at Adams Wildlife Sanctuary, 2315 E Clear Lake Ave in Springfield, Illinois at 11 AM until 3:30 or so for quiet conversation. Let’s wander in the woods, listening to birdsong and one another.

The Illinois Audubon Society is a good resource for assorted conservation efforts and has many chapters throughout the IL area. Should you stay put, you’re missing out. Regardless, please dig where you are.

I’ll happily provide refreshments before and after the walk. All are welcome to join after for lunch though please don’t feel obligated.

I will admit that part of Springfield is not particularly safe. Afternoon, around 3:30 PM, a cautious .6 mile journey to Chesapeake Seafood House down the road from Adams Wildlife Sanctuary will follow. Here is the website:

Chesapeake Seafood House is a local jewel, really among the best restaurants in town. The mansion was built in the mid 1800s and the restaurant opened in 1983. They’re quite popular and established, the type of business where staff retires after working decades and are still asked after in decades to come.

Every Sunday there is a fried chicken special for $14.29. There’s a working fireplace, cocktail happy hour, and old world ambience. I have heard rumors the mansion is haunted, but regardless is rich with fascinating history.

Should need arise, private dining rooms are available at Chesapeake, although I don’t anticipate any problems with comfortable, suitable accommodations for any party under 7 or so without reservations. We’ll play it by ear.
